Today's graphic designers and retail display fabricators are encouraged more than ever to form partnerships with suppliers focused on "green" initiatives and sustainability in their businesses.
"At 3A Composites, sustainability and business value go hand in hand," said W. Jay Wynne, vice president, sales and marketing, 3A Composites USA Inc. "Our interpretation of sustainability involves improving performance through increased social and economic benefits while reducing the environmental impacts of our activities both short- and long-term. 3A Composites has a vital role to play in reducing environmental releases, conserving natural resources, and ensuring healthy and safe communities and workplaces."
3A Composites USA Inc. received the 2004 "Innovative Environmental Program Award from the International Association of Plastics Distributors (IAPD) in recognition of its outstanding corporate recycling practices. IAPD officials highlighted 3A Composites' excellence in integrating environment, health and safety into its daily business. Recycling programs at the company's Benton, Ky., facility incorporate plastics, aluminum, wood pallets, oil and solvents. Additional product manufacturing waste reduction/recycling programs are focused on the following graphic display boards:
Fome-Cor® (extruded polystyrene foam bonded between various high-quality papers) - A dedicated on-site system at the company's Glasgow, Ky., facility reclaims foam during the FomeCor board manufacturing process, which also includes waste foam from other polystyrene processors.
Gatorfoam® (extruded polystyrene foam sandwiched between two wood-fiber veneers) - Waste polystyrene generated while manufacturing Gatorfoam is recycled into similar foam manufacturing processes at our Statesville, N.C., plant.
Dibond® and Alucobond® (two skins of aluminum over a polyethylene core) - All scrap core material is recycled directly back into the manufacturing process at the company's Benton, Ky., facility, and all scrap aluminum is returned to the aluminum processing plants for recycling. Additionally, 3A Composites' coil-coating process is recognized as one of the best in the industry for minimal environmental impact, consistently surpassing EPA standards for reduced emissions.
Sintra® (expanded PVC) - is manufactured with approximately 3 percent recycled content, including all white scrap generated at the Benton facility.
"Long-term sustainability is not a business ideal at 3A Composites; it's an integral component of business operations that drives the Engineered Products business group and the graphic display business," said Wynne. "We believe that sustainability and business value go hand in hand and are committed to continually looking for ways for achieve sustainability in our business."
