Previously, Emily Randolph’s mixed-media art pieces were for indoor use. Due to popular demand by her clients, she created a series made exclusively for outdoor exhibition. The ‘ICE’ series is split into two collections: “DESERT ICE” and “ZEN ICE.”

Randolph has always sought inspiration from nature, often utilizing real foliage in her works. For the ‘ICE’ series, the pieces all feature a Dibond aluminum composite base with high-quality ultraviolet inks, non-toxic resin and colored fire glass.

Mike Goldner of Artisan explains, “We used our ZUND CNC router to cut the pieces. We used the smallest bit possible (1/8”) for tight corners and minimal rounding out. We also made a small change on the approach to printing. But some had white ink masked areas, others were printed without white ink at all.”

Randolph and Artisan Colour are no strangers to the use of Dibond in their works. In a previous post we focused on Randolph’s abundant interior works on both Dibond ACM and Sintra PVC Board. She explains that for the ‘ICE’ series Dibond was chosen because, “…it’s the most rugged and long-lasting material that I can print on. With the addition of an aluminum cleat hanging system devised by Artisan Colour, I knew I could create an enduring art collection for the outdoors.”

We have many year-round warm weather climates across the US that are highly suited for outdoor art. My clients want to bring art outside to mix with nature and enhance their visual experience.”

Her colorful works whether inspired by the flora they feature or the colorful moments of happiness in our lives, Randolph continues to explore the boundaries of traditional substrates with her high-quality dimensional designs.
